I am so excited to be taking part on Sunday April 19^th as this year marks the 15th anniversary of this event that is lifting the lid on Parkinson’s by raising awareness as well as funds to support the Parkinson’s community.

Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition with no cure despite being medically identifyed in 1817 and the first effective medication (levodopa) being released in 1970.  It effects people regardless of age; it has no set speed of progression but unfortunately it just continues to slowly get worse.  It has around 40 different symptoms/issues (tremor, balance, memory, mood etc.) that are generally treatable, however, each of us gets a different mix to deal with and more pop up from time to time.

Fight Parkinson’s is a Victorian NFP that has been an enormous support to me since my diagnosis in May 2023.  Their Multidisciplinary Medical Team are always on tap to take a phone call and provide support immediately regardless of my issue.

They also run education sessions (both online and face-to-face) to help us to gain a better understand of how to best manage our conditions.  On top of that, they have a majestic website with data sheets to download as well as an online training program to make sure that I and my carers are across all information necessary for me to live my best life.
